Quick Start Guide to Creating a Blog

A Step by Step Guide to Creating your Blog in Minutes

I will outline the steps to take to create your own blog and have it up and running in minutes.

1. Choose a Topic for your Blog

Maybe you have done this already, that’s why you are reading this guide. But if you haven’t then this is an important step as it will help you in deciding on a name for your blog and choosing your domain name.
My recommendation is to choose something that you love. Blogging about something you love will greatly increase the quality of your blog. Better quality = more return readers = more income form your blog if that is what you are in it for.

2. Register Your Domain Name

You have your topic so you have an idea of what your domain name will be. Your domain is your address on the web and this is what people will use to find your blog online. Try as much as possible to include your topic in the domain. For Example, if you topic is “horseshoes” try something like horseshoes.com or greathorseshoes.com You can also try other extensions like horseshoes.net and horseshoes.org.
Where do you register your domain name? I personally use www.svgwebhost.com
You can register a domain name for $9.99 a year.

3. Get a Web Hosting Account:

To get and keep your blog online you need web hosting. The web host is where you blog software and files will be kept so that when someone goes to your domain they will see your site. I host all my blogs with www.svgwebhost.com. All 25 of them. Their hosting plan is $9.95 per month. It allows you to host as many sites as you want without having to buy anymore hosting accounts. It is totally worth it. The great thing when about hosting your blog with svgwebhost.com is that if you want they will set up your blog software for you free of charge.

4. Point Your Domain Name to Your Hosting Account:
For your site to be viewed when someone types your domain name, your domain must be pointed to your hosting account.
Once you open your hosting account you will get a welcome email with all your hosting account details. You will get log in details for your Control Panel. You will also get the Name Servers where you need to point your domain name for it to be attached to your hosting account. If you registered your domain and bought your hosting form the site I suggested about you don’t have to worry about pointing your domain name. They will do it for you automatically.

5. Installing Your Blog:
You have your domain name and your hosting account. All you need is to get that blog online. Here we go.
Log into your control panel. You have that information in the welcome email from your host.
The web address will look like this http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel
Click or type it into your web browser.
Replace yourdomain.com with your actual domain name your registered.
The log in box will pop up. Enter your user name and password as your see it in the welcome email. You may copy and paste it.

Once you are there you will see a whole heap of icons. Don’t be overwhelmed all these are links to things that will help you mange your hosting account. Some your will need and some you may never have to touch.

Scroll down until you see the Fantastico De Luxe icon. It may be listed under Software/Services

Click on the Fantastico icon and it will bring your to a page with a long list of software titles. Click the wordpress link.

Then select New Install

Enter the required Information and Click Install WordPress.

WOW, was that easy or what. Go to your domain and see if your site is up. You may notice a boring looking blog. That’s is your wordpress default blog theme. It is highly recommended that you change it to something better looking.
